What’s in my playlist– ThePianoGuys
It’s been awhile since I shared some new music with my readers/followers, and I’ve really been almost obsessed with these guys for a few weeks now. ThePianoGuys are a group of musicians from Utah who re-create popular musical pieces (some classical, some radio songs) and then record them “music video style” in awesome locations. The resulting videos are posted on YouTube. Viewers see primarily the pianist and cellist in the videos, although there are 3 other “guys” who are part of the group behind the scenes doing production and editing and engineering. In the past year or so since they’ve been doing this, they’ve garnered a gigantic following and have recently signed a record deal with Sony to release their first album.
What I love about this group (and what I find so addictive about watching their videos) is the look of sheer enjoyment on their faces while they’re playing. Yes, their musical arrangements are fresh and different (and sometimes humorous, check out “So Happy Together” and “Rock-elbel”)– but they’re having so much FUN, and I often can’t help but smile while I watch.
It’s easy to find them on YouTube– just search for ThePianoGuys, they have their own channel. My recent favorite is “What Makes You Beautiful”– 5 guys, 1 piano, it’s AWESOME. Check them out, and let me know in the comment section what you think!
