On the Bookshelf– October 11, 2011
This week’s featured book is “The Heroine’s Journey” by Maureen Murdock. The author begins the book’s introduction by explaining how she arrived at writing the book– her own search for the “woman’s way” and finding many books detailing the man’s journey (e.g., Carol Pearson, Robert Johnson, and almost everything by Joseph Campbell). Yet there was scant literature discussing the lifepaths of women, and so this book was born. In the spirit of full disclosure, I’m only a few chapters into the book as of this writing. However, I am finding it to be empowering, enlightening, and full of useful information for all of us heroines. Although readers will encounter “psychology” language throughout the book, the author does an excellent job of weaving the technical stuff into clearly understandable terms and stories that illustrate her points. If you, or any woman you know, is looking for something to encourage you along the way in your own inner journey– this would be a terrific book to pick up and read. Enjoy your journey!
