BIG announcement & guided imagery!
After 4 years of post-master’s training and education, I’m now the only person in all of Alabama (and Mississippi for that matter!) who is qualified to practice Guided Imagery and Music (GIM). GIM is a specialty area of music therapy. You can read more about it in some of my other blog posts.
So here’s the breakdown–
- there are over 5600 board certified music therapists, 42 of whom live in Alabama
- there are just over 200 GIM therapists in the US, only 1 of whom lives in Alabama (that’s me!)
And how did I get to this point?
- 4 1/2 years for a bachelor’s of music in music therapy degree, including a 6 month internship and board certification exam
- 3 years for a master’s degree in music therapy, including a thesis
- 4 years for the GIM program, including writing over 1000 pages of reports and 75 hours of supervision along with 150 hours of additional educational training
The bottom line is….
What that means is this particular specialty in guided imagery is incredibly unique. And it’s an approach to mental health and wellness that can’t be found just anywhere. I’m very proud to have accomplished this achievement because I believe it allows me to offer a deeper, richer, more effective way of helping clients transform their lives and make the changes they desperately need and want. Many of my clients report benefits after only a few sessions.
